Hey everyone, I'm planning on building a 12x16 shed this summer. I'll be using a framing nailer, a finish nailer, and maybe a sprayer for paint or stain. I've never owned an air compressor before. What size and type should I look for? Budget is around $300. Thanks!

Hands down get a Makita. I've had mine for years, runs like a beast. For your setup, look at the MAC2400. It's 2.5 HP, 4.2 CFM at 90 PSI, plenty for those tools. Yeah it's a bit over your budget but you'll thank me later.

Don't overlook used compressors, especially older US-made ones. I picked up a Campbell Hausfeld cast iron pump for $50 at a garage sale, rebuilt it and it's quieter than any new cheapo. For your budget, you could get a good used Ingersoll Rand or even a Quincy if you hunt around.

For a shed, you don't need a massive tank. A 6-gallon pancake compressor will do fine for nailers. But if you plan on spraying, you'll want at least 20 gallons and around 5 CFM. Harbor Freight has a 21 gallon 2.5 HP for $250 on sale. Not top quality but will get the job done for occasional use.

Thanks all! I think I'll go with a 20 gallon to future-proof. Maybe I'll check Craigslist for a used one first. Appreciate the advice!
