DeWalt vs Makita air compressors - which one should I get?

Hey everyone, I'm in the market for a new air compressor for my garage shop. I've narrowed it down to DeWalt or Makita. I mainly use it for nailers, impact wrenches, and occasional tire inflation. Any advice on which brand is better? I've heard DeWalt is more common but Makita might be quieter. What do you guys think?

DeWalt all the way! I've had my DWFP55126 for 5 years and it's a beast. Never let me down. Makita is good but DeWalt has better parts availability and you can find them everywhere. Plus, yellow looks cool. Just my 2 cents.

As a contractor, I've used both. Makita compressors are generally quieter and more efficient for continuous use. If you're just doing occasional DIY, DeWalt is fine. But if you're running it all day, go Makita. The MAC700 is a solid choice. Also, consider the CFM ratings for your tools - that's more important than brand.

Thanks for the replies! I'll mostly be using it on weekends, so maybe DeWalt is sufficient. But the noise factor is important since my shop is close to the house. Sarah, is the Makita really that much quieter?

Yeah, the Makita is noticeably quieter. I measured my old DeWalt at around 90 dB and the Makita at 80 dB. Doesn't sound like much but it makes a difference. Also, Makita has a better warranty (3 years vs 1 for DeWalt). But DeWalt is cheaper upfront. Depends on your budget and how much you'll use it.
