Hey folks, looking at getting my first air compressor for garage projects - mostly drywall, some light trim work, maybe inflating tires. Narrowed it down to the DeWalt DWFP55126 and Makita MAC2400. Both are 6-gallon pancake style. DeWalt's a bit cheaper locally, but Makita has that oil-lubed pump everyone raves about. Anyone have long-term experience with either? Worried about reliability since I won't be using it daily like pros.

Steve86 - Roofing contractor here. We beat the heck out of compressors on job sites. Makita all day for durability. That oil pump will last years if you maintain it (change oil yearly, drain tank after use). DeWalt's oil-free is louder and runs hotter - fine for occasional use but dies faster under heavy cycles. Pro tip: whichever you get, ALWAYS wear safety glasses when using air tools. Seen too many accidents.

Apprentice plumber here! My boss has the DeWalt one and it's been good for 2 years but it's starting to sound kinda whiny? Makita's heavier tho - like 10lbs more. Also check CFM ratings! The Makita does 4.2 CFM at 90 PSI vs DeWalt's 3.5. Might matter if you run a framing nailer later. BTW what hose you gonna use? Cheap ones kink like crazy lol

Thanks both! Steve72 - good point on maintenance, I'm decent about that. Tim - didn't notice the CFM difference, good catch. Mostly using for drywall gun and brad nailer. Noise is a factor too since my garage shares a wall with the living room. Makita's oiled is quieter right? Anyone know about warranty support experiences?

Makita definitely quieter - about 78 dB vs DeWalt's 82. Warranty: Makita 1-year, DeWalt 3-year but pro-rated. Honestly for DIY, either will work. If you're doing drywall mostly, get whichever has better local parts availability. And remember: NEVER adjust pressure while tool is connected! Bleed line first. Seen a guy blow a fitting off doing that.
