Hey folks! I'm planning to build a 12x16 deck this summer. I already have a brad nailer and framing nailer, but my old pancake compressor finally gave up. I need something that can run both nailers without constant waiting. Budget is tight - trying to stay under $200. Any recommendations?

For under $200, I'd look at the California Air Tools 10020C. It's super quiet (like 60db) and has a 2.0 gal tank. It won't keep up with a framing nailer on full blast, but for a DIY deck it'll work fine. Just let it catch up between shots. Don't cheap out on oil-free ones - they die fast. Got mine for $179 at Home Depot last month.

I'd actually suggest saving a bit more and getting a used 20-gal tank from a pawn shop. I restore old compressors and you can find a decent Campbell Hausfeld for like $150. New small tanks just don't have the CFM for framing nailers. I rebuilt a 1970s Speedaire that'll outlast me. But if you must go new, Harbor Freight has a 8-gal Fortress that's okay for the price.

Honestly for a deck you don't need a huge tank. I built my entire 14x20 shed with a little 6-gal Bostitch. Key is to get a dual-pump fast fill model. Also make sure your framing nailer doesn't require high CFM - some are greedy. My suggestion: Bostitch BTFP02012, about $200 on Amazon. Fills fast and oil-lubed so it lasts.

Thanks everyone! I think I'll go with Hank's suggestion of the California Air Tools. Steve, I'd love to restore an old one but I don't have the time right now. Felix, that Bostitch looks good too but I found the Cali Air for $165 at Lowe's. My nailers are Hitachi (basic ones) so should be fine. Appreciate the help!
