Hey everyone, just got my first decent air compressor for the woodshop and realized I might be under-geared on safety. Been using it for nail guns and blowing dust, but what PPE should I actually have? I've got safety glasses obviously, but what about ear protection? Some of these things get loud! Any tips appreciated.

SparkySam646 - Good on you for asking. On concrete jobs we run big compressors all day. Ear protection is NON-NEGOTIABLE - get some decent muffs or plugs, tinnitus ain't fun. Also, safety glasses with side shields - flying debris happens more than you think. If you're using impact wrenches or grinders, add gloves and maybe a face shield. Don't cheap out on PPE.

Totally agree with Dan. I use my compressor for everything in the garage - tires, painting, air tools. I keep a pair of 3M worktunes (bluetooth earmuffs) hanging right on the compressor cart. Game changer! Also, check your hoses regularly for cracks - had one blow near a fitting once, scared the crap out of me. Not exactly PPE but safety related.

Thanks guys! Ordered some muffs after reading this. Dan - face shield is a good call for when I eventually try my air-powered angle grinder. Dave - hose tip is smart, mine's looking a bit weathered. Anyone have thoughts on respirators for painting? I've heard the compressor can aerosolize stuff you don't want to breathe.

SparkySam646 - Absolutely on respirators for painting. Get a proper half-mask with P100 filters, not just a dust mask. And make sure your workspace is ventilated. Compressed air can also blow contaminants into your eyes or skin - another reason for full coverage. Stay safe out there.
