Scored a sweet deal on a 60gal compressor! Worth it?

Hey guys, just snagged a used 60gal, 5hp two-stage compressor for $300 from a retiring contractor. It's a 2015 model, runs like a top, but it's got some rust on the tank. I'm wondering if it's worth the hassle to fix up or if I should just resell it. What do you all think?

Wow, $300 for a 60gal 5hp? That's a steal even if it needs work! I'm a bit jealous. But make sure you check the tank for serious rust - if it's pitted deep, that's dangerous. If it's just surface rust, you can sand it down and repaint. Also check the pressure relief valve and the pump oil. If those are good, you've got a beast for the price of a small pancake.

Dude, you hit the jackpot! I paid $800 for a similar one used. But I gotta echo Mike - that tank is the big thing. Rust on the outside can be managed, but if there's rust inside, you're looking at acid flush or worse, replacement. Do a hydro test or at least fill it up and spray soapy water on all seams. And check the check valve and unloader. For $300, even if you put $100 in parts, you're still ahead.

Thanks for the input! I already did the soapy water test - no leaks. Tank rust is just surface, I'll grind it down and repaint with some rustoleum. The pump seems fine, oil looks clean. I think I'm gonna keep it and maybe add a water separator. Need to run some nailing and maybe a small blaster. You guys convinced me it's worth it!
