Hey y'all, I'm planning to build a 12x16 shed in my backyard. I've got a basic tool set but I'm wondering if I need any specialty automotive tools for stuff like leveling the foundation or cutting metal roofing. Any recommendations on what to get?

Tim, for leveling you'll want a good laser level, not automotive. For metal cutting, an angle grinder with a metal cutoff wheel is perfect. If you're driving a lot of screws, a good impact driver will save your wrists. Auto tools won't help much here IMO.

I disagree with Sarah a bit. A torque wrench can be useful for tightening bolts on the shed's hardware to spec, especially if you're using those Simpson Strong-Tie connectors. Also, a multimeter is handy for checking electrical if you're running power to the shed. But yeah, angle grinder is must-have.

Don't forget a good cordless drill/driver combo! I use my Milwaukee set for everything. And if you're working on your car later, a mechanics tool set will come in handy. But for the shed, I'd invest in a circular saw and a nail gun. You don't need auto tools specifically.

Thanks guys! I'll look into a laser level and angle grinder. Dan, I'll grab a torque wrench too, those connectors are expensive so I want them right. Appreciate all the help!
