Hey all, I'm looking to upgrade my impact wrench for automotive work. Between the DeWalt DCF899 and the Makita XWT08Z, which one packs more punch for lug nuts and rusty bolts? I've heard mixed things about battery life too. Any firsthand experience?

I've used both. The DeWalt DCF899 has slightly higher torque (700 ft-lbs vs 680), but more importantly, the power delivery is smoother. Makita's is good but DeWalt's precision mode on the DCF899B is killer for not overtightening. Also DeWalt's batteries last longer in cold weather—I work in a garage that's freezing half the year. Go DeWalt if you want control.

I retired from carpentry but still wrench on my old truck. Honest truth? Both are overkill for most DIY stuff. I got the Makita on sale and it's been solid for 3 years. The trigger is a bit touchy though. If you're just doing basic car stuff, save some coin and get the mid-torque. But between these two, you can't go wrong. I lean Makita cuz my other tools are Makita.

Thanks guys! @DeWaltDan, that precision mode sounds like a game changer for not breaking studs. And @RenovationRick, I get the battery platform argument. I'm actually invested in DeWalt already (drill and saw), so I'm leaning that way. Might pull the trigger on the DCF899—appreciate the input!
