Hey folks, been doing some brake jobs and suspension work on my truck lately. Wanted to remind everyone: don't skip the safety glasses! Had a rusty bolt shatter yesterday and a piece flew right at my face - glasses saved me from a trip to the ER. What other PPE do you guys never work without?

Great point Tim! As a safety inspector, I see too many DIYers neglecting basics. Minimum for automotive: impact-resistant eyewear, nitrile gloves (chemical protection), and hearing protection if using air tools. For jack stands - ALWAYS use wheel chocks and verify weight ratings. Seen some scary near-misses with cheap stands failing.

HVAC guy here but I wrench on my old Bronco weekends. Second the gloves - brake cleaner and transmission fluid will wreck your skin. I also keep a small fire extinguisher rated for oil/electrical in my garage. Almost needed it when a fuel line spray hit my exhaust manifold last year. Stay safe y'all!

Fire extinguisher is smart Luke! Forgot to mention respirators too - grinding dust and brake pad particles are no joke for your lungs. I use a basic P100 when doing heavy grinding. DrillMaster, any recommendations for jack stand brands that meet proper safety standards?

Tim - Look for ASME PALD certified stands (American Society of Mechanical Engineers). Torin, Omega, and US Jack have good options. Avoid questionable off-brands. And NEVER work under a vehicle supported only by a hydraulic jack - that's how most fatalities occur. Good discussion everyone!
