Tariffs on imported tools? What's the impact on our wallets?

Saw this article about new trade probes. Looks like they're going after China again on steel and aluminum. I remember back in '18 when Trump slapped tariffs on those, prices for my impact sockets went up 20% overnight. Now with Biden picking it up, I bet we see the same. What do you guys think?

Yeah man, I'm feeling it too. My last order of DeWalt bits came with a surcharge. But hey, maybe it'll push more US manufacturing? Though I ain't holdin my breath. Most 'American' brands still source from Asia. You think we'll see price hikes on cordless tools?

Tariffs mean higher costs for raw materials like aluminum and copper. That affects motors, batteries, everything. I've already seen price creep on Makita and Milwaukee. But the real problem is these probes take years. By then, companies just move production to Vietnam or India. Long term, it might not help US jobs.

Good point about production moving. I remember when Snap-on tried to claim they were US-made, but their castings came from India. It's all global now. But hey, if you want to dodge tariffs, buy used! I've been finding great deals on old Craftsman stuff at garage sales. Still made in USA.

Ha! I'm with you on the used stuff. But for new tech like brushless motors, you gotta go new. I'm just gonna stock up now before prices go up again. Thanks for the heads up, Gary.
