Car vacuum battery not charging - help!

Hey everyone, I've got a Black+Decker car vacuum that's about a year old. The battery won't charge anymore. When I plug it in, the charger light stays green (should be red when charging). I've tried different outlets, no luck. Anyone else had this issue? Is the battery toast or is it the charger? I don't wanna buy a new one if it's an easy fix. Thanks!

Sounds like the battery pack is dead. Those little 12v lead acids in car vacs don't last long if they sit discharged. Check the voltage with a multimeter if you have one. If it's below 10v, it's probably done. You can sometimes replace just the battery if you're handy with a soldering iron. What model is it?

Before you toss it, try cleaning the contacts on both the vacuum and the charger. Sometimes dirt or corrosion stops the charge. Also, check the charger cord for any breaks. I've had a few where the wire frayed near the plug. A quick wiggle test while plugged in might show if it's intermittent. If it's the battery, you can often find replacements on Amazon for cheaper than a new vac.

I had a similar issue with a Dustbuster. Turned out the charger was faulty. If you have a multimeter, check the output voltage of the charger. Should be around 12-15v DC. If nothing, it's the charger. If you get voltage, then it's the battery. Also, does the vacuum run at all when plugged in? Some models work corded even with a dead battery. That could help diagnose.

Thanks for the quick replies! It's a Black+Decker BDH2000L. I don't have a multimeter, but I might grab one from Harbor Freight. The vacuum doesn't run at all when plugged in, so I can't test that. I'll try cleaning the contacts first. If that doesn't work, I'll look into a replacement battery. Appreciate the help!
