Is it safe to use a vacuum in a wet car? Need PPE advice.

Hey guys, I've got a carpet extractor but my old shop vac is still my go-to for quick drying. But I'm worried about using it on wet carpets - is that safe? Should I wear rubber boots or something? I don't wanna get zapped.

Great question. If your vacuum is rated for wet pickup (look for the 'wet' symbol or a separate tank), it should be fine. But always use a GFCI outlet when dealing with water. I'd also recommend rubber boots and gloves just in case. Better safe than sorry.

I second the GFCI. Also, make sure the vacuum's filter is dry before using it for dry stuff after. I've seen filters get moldy fast. And yeah, rubber boots are cheap insurance. I got a pair at Harbor Freight for like $10.

Thanks guys! My shop vac does have a wet/dry switch, so I guess I'm good. I'll grab some rubber boots and a GFCI adapter. Any recommendations on a good pair that won't break the bank?

For budget, the ones at Harbor Freight are fine. But if you want something that lasts, I've had a pair of Tingley boots for years. They're about $30 but worth it. Also, don't forget safety glasses - sometimes debris can fly out of the vac.
