PSA: Don't forget your dust mask when using car vacuums!

Hey folks, just a quick reminder after last weekend's detail job. I was using my shop vac to clean out the car interior, and I forgot to put on my dust mask. I was vacuuming up some old debris and dirt, and let me tell you, I was sneezing and coughing for hours afterwards. That fine dust gets everywhere! Don't be like me – always wear a mask, even if you're just doing a quick vacuum. Your lungs will thank you.

Great tip, Gary! I actually never thought about it for a car vacuum, but you're totally right. I usually wear a mask when I'm sanding, but for vacuuming I figured it was fine. I'll definitely start wearing one now. Do you recommend any specific type of mask for this, or is a basic dust mask enough?

Second that! I had a nasty allergy attack after vacuuming out a car that had some mouse droppings in it. That was a wake-up call. Now I always wear a respirator, not just a dust mask, because some of that stuff can be nasty. Better safe than sorry, and it's cheap insurance.

Steve, I'd say a simple N95 is plenty for regular vacuuming. But if you're dealing with mold or anything suspicious, go for a respirator like Gary said. Good point about the mouse droppings too, Gary – that's some serious health hazard stuff. Let's all keep our lungs safe out there!
