PSA: Don't Skip the Safety Glasses When Using a Car Vacuum!

Just a friendly reminder to all my fellow DIYers: always wear safety glasses when using a car vacuum, especially if you're cleaning up after a project. I learned this the hard way last weekend - I was vacuuming out my truck after sanding some wood, and a tiny splinter flew up and hit me right in the eye. Luckily it was just a scratch, but it could've been way worse. Don't be like me, folks!

Great reminder! I always wear my PPE when using any tool, and a vacuum is no exception. Even a small amount of dust or debris can cause serious damage to your eyes. I've seen too many accidents on job sites. Also, consider a vacuum with a HEPA filter to keep the dust down, and maybe even a dust collection attachment for your sander.

I never really thought about it, but you're right. I've been using my shop vac for years without glasses, and I've had some close calls. Gonna start wearing them now. What kind of glasses do you recommend? I find that the cheap ones fog up easily when I'm working up a sweat.

I use a pair with anti-fog coating, but I've also heard that wearing a dust mask can help redirect your breath away from the lenses. Also, make sure they fit snugly but not too tight. I like the ones with adjustable temples. And if you're vacuuming under the seats, a headlamp can help you see better and avoid hitting wires or other stuff.

Good tips! Another thing: if you're using a wet/dry vac, be careful with the exhaust - it can blow debris around. I always position the exhaust away from me and any bystanders. And of course, unplug the vac before emptying or clearing clogs. Safety first!
