Hey everyone, just finished building a deck and my truck is absolutely caked in sawdust and wood chips. I've been using a cheap shop vac but it's not cutting it - keeps clogging and the hose is too stiff to get into the crevices. What's the best car vacuum for this kind of mess? I need something that can handle fine dust but also bigger wood chunks. Budget is around $100-150. Thanks!

Debbie! I feel your pain - my SUV looked like a lumberyard after my last cabinet project. I've tried like 5 different vacs over the years. For your budget, check out the Bissell CleanView Compact. It's around $120, has a rotating brush head that's great for carpets, and the hose is super flexible. The filter system is decent for sawdust too. I've also got the DeWalt cordless one for quick cleanups, but that's pricier. Pro tip: empty it OFTEN with wood chips or it'll clog for sure.

Shop vac with a drywall bag. Period. Those consumer car vacs are toys. Get a 5-gallon Rigid from Home Depot ($80), add a fine dust filter ($15) and use the bags. The suction will blow away any Bissell. Hose reaches everywhere in a truck bed. I use mine for welding slag cleanup too - if it can handle metal shavings, your sawdust is nothing. Just don't use the same vac for wet stuff later unless you deep clean it.

Thanks both! Patty, I like the Bissell idea for the rotating brush - my truck has those deep carpet grooves. Greg, you think a shop vac won't be too bulky? My storage space is limited. Also, do the fine dust filters really catch all the fine particles? Last thing I need is dust blowing back out into the air.

Greg's not wrong about power, but for interior detailing, a shop vac can be overkill. The Bissell comes with crevice tools that get between seats better. Saw your budget - if you can stretch to $180, the Worx portable wet/dry vac is a nice middle ground. Cordless too! Used it after helping my nephew with his car repair - oil dry pellets and all. *links to ToolDiscountClub review page for compact wet/dry vacs*
