Hey guys, planning to build a big deck this summer. Cutting some 6x6 posts and maybe some rough lumber. Not looking to spend a fortune but want something reliable. Gas or electric? Heard good things about Stihl but they're pricey. What do you think?

For deck building, I'd go gas. Once you start cutting PT lumber, electric can bog down. Look at the Stihl MS251 - it's a workhorse without breaking the bank. Or if you want cheaper, Husqvarna 440. Dont forget chain sharpening stuff.

I used a DeWalt 60V chainsaw for my shed and it ripped through 6x6s like butter. No gas smell, no pull cord. Battery life is fine if you have 2. But if you're cutting all day, maybe gas. Just my 2 cents.

Honestly, for a one-off deck build, rent a pro saw from Home Depot. No maintenance, get the job done quick. But if you want to buy, get a used Stihl 290 from Craigslist. Bulletproof. But learn to sharpen first lol.

yeah sharpening is key. OP if you go gas, always use fresh ethanol-free gas or you'll be cleaning carburetors. Also, safety first - chaps and helmet if you're doing that much cutting.
