Chainsaw battery not holding charge - any ideas?

Hey everyone, been using my 18V chainsaw for about a year now. Recently the battery drains super fast and sometimes the charger shows a green light immediately, but it's not actually charged. I've cleaned the contacts, but no luck. Is the battery toast or could it be the charger? Any advice would be great!

Hey mate, sounds like a classic battery issue. I've had Li-ion batteries die after a year, especially if they've been left in the sun or stored in a hot shed. Sometimes the internal cells go wonky. But before you fork out for a new one, try a 'reset' - put the battery on the charger, unplug it, wait 30 secs, plug back in. Some chargers do a cell balance that way. If that doesn't work, test the charger with a multimeter if you have one. Just my two cents!

Yeah, what DrillMaster said. But also check the charger contacts - sometimes they get a bit grody. And if you got a drill battery that works, try charging that to see if it's the charger. I had a similar thing with my Makita, ended up being the charger. Not saying yours is, but it's worth narrowing it down. Also, don't chuck the battery in the bin - recycle it!

Thanks guys! I'll try that reset and see if my drill battery charges. If it's the battery, I'll probably get a new one. This chainsaw is a beast when it's working though. Appreciate the help!

No worries! Let us know how it goes. If you do end up getting a new battery, maybe look at getting a higher Ah one for more runtime. Just remember to keep it indoors in a cool place. Happy cutting!
