Hey everyone, just picked up my first chainsaw (a Stihl MS 170) for some storm cleanup around the yard. I've got safety glasses and work gloves, but I'm wondering what else I really need for PPE. Don't wanna learn the hard way, ya know? Any tips appreciated!

Chris, first off, welcome to the club! You're smart to ask. Safety glasses are a good start, but you really need a face shield too. Chaps are a must - get the ones with kevlar or similar. Also, hearing protection! Those saws are loud. And steel-toe boots. Don't skimp on PPE, it's cheaper than a hospital bill.

Paul's got it right. I'd add that you should get a proper forestry helmet with the face shield and ear muffs integrated. Saves you from buying separate pieces. Also, consider cut-resistant gloves instead of regular work gloves. They're a bit pricier but worth it. Check Amazon or your local farm store for deals.

No problem! One more thing: always check your chain tension and make sure your kickback brake works before each use. And never cut above shoulder height. Stay safe out there!
