Just saw this article about Avista getting ready for a windstorm. I'm thinking about busting out my Stihl MS 311 to clear any fallen trees around the property before the power goes out. Anyone else prepping their saws? Got a link to the article: [Link]. Thoughts?

Good thinking Carl! I've got my old Husqvarna 455 Rancher gassed up and sharpened. Just a heads up tho - if the wind is real bad, wait until it passes. No point risking a widowmaker falling on ya while you're out there. Safety first!

Nice saws you guys got. I'm actually looking for an excuse to break in my new Echo CS-590. But yeah, Hank's right about waiting. Also check your chain tension and make sure you got a spare spark plug. Nothing worse than flooding out in the middle of a job.

Wish I could afford a new saw. I'll be making do with my old Poulan Pro from a garage sale. keeps starting though. Maybe I'll pick up some cheap chains from Harbor Freight to have on hand. Anyone tried those?

Rick, I've used those HF chains before. They're ok for light work but don't hold an edge long. Might be worth it for storm cleanup though if you're on a budget. Just keep a file handy! And yeah, I'm definitely waiting till the winds die down - no sense being a hero.
