DeWalt vs Makita Chainsaw - Which One to Get?

Hey everyone, I'm in the market for a new chainsaw for some light to medium duty work around the house - cutting firewood, trimming branches, that sort of thing. I've narrowed it down to the DeWalt 20V MAX and the Makita XCU03. I like the idea of going cordless, and both have good reviews. But I can't decide! Any input from those who have used them?

I've used both on the job. For pure cutting power, the Makita takes the cake. That thing rips through logs like butter. The DeWalt is no slouch, but it bogs down a bit more in dense wood. However, the DeWalt is lighter and more balanced, which is nice for overhead cuts. If you're doing occasional trimming, either will work, but if you want more grunt, go Makita.

Carl's right about power, but let's talk about bar and chain. The Makita has a 14" bar, which is great for precision. I've done some carving and limbing with it, and it's super controllable. The DeWalt's 16" bar is nice for bigger cuts, but it's a bit more unwieldy for detail work. Also, the Makita has a more aggressive chain, so it cuts faster but wears out quicker. Depends on your style.

Safety first, guys. Both have chain brakes, but I've noticed the Makita's brake engages quicker in a kickback situation. I'd recommend going to a store and feeling them in your hands. Also, check the oiler - the DeWalt tends to leak a bit if you store it on its side. I've seen that in reviews. Anyway, get a good helmet, chaps, and gloves. Stay safe!
