Hey guys, I'm looking at getting a new chainsaw for some tree trimming and firewood cutting around the house. I've narrowed it down to the DeWalt DCCS690X1 and the Makita XCU03PT1. Both are 18V brushless, but I'm torn. I already have a bunch of DeWalt stuff, but I hear Makita's saws are smoother. Anyone got experience with either? Budget isn't a huge deal, just want reliability.

I've used both on job sites. The Makita is a beast, smoother chain and better balance. But if you're already in DeWalt ecosystem, stick with it. Batteries alone cost a fortune. DeWalt's saw is solid too, just a bit more vibration. Also, check the bar length - for firewood the 14" might be short. I'd say go DeWalt for compatibility unless you want to switch platforms.

I'm just an apprentice so take this with a grain of salt. My boss runs Makita and he loves them. Says they last longer. But I've used both and honestly the difference isn't huge for home use. I'd say get whichever feels better in your hands. And remember to use good chain oil and keep the chain sharp, that makes a bigger difference than brand imo.

Good points. I think I'll stick with DeWalt since I got a bunch of batteries already. LevelLarry, you mentioned bar length - the DeWalt comes with 16" which should be fine for my needs. Thanks for the input guys!
