DeWalt vs Makita: Which One for Home Use?

Hey all, I'm looking to get my first chainsaw for around the house – trimming branches, maybe cutting up fallen trees after storms. I've narrowed it down to the DeWalt 20V XR and the Makita 36V (2x18V). Both are cordless, which I prefer. I'm leaning DeWalt because I already have their batteries, but I've heard Makita has more power. Any advice?

I've used both. For home use, honestly, either will do. But if you already have DeWalt batteries, that saves you money. The 20V is fine for occasional trimming. My buddy has the Makita and it's a beast, but it's heavy. I'd stick with DeWalt unless you're cutting a lot.

I'm with Felix. I have the DeWalt and it's great for small jobs. But make sure you get the bar length right – I got a 16 inch and it's a bit long for tight spots. Also, if you plan on using it a lot, maybe consider a gas one. Cordless are convenient but run out fast.

As a contractor, I use heavy-duty stuff. But for your needs, the DeWalt is fine. However, if you have Makita batteries too, the 36V is more powerful and will cut faster. But it's bulkier. Just don't skimp on safety gear – always wear chaps and a helmet.
