Found a Husqvarna 455 Rancher for $350 - Worth It?

So I was browsing FB Marketplace and found a Husqvarna 455 Rancher, used but looks barely touched, for $350. Retail is like $450+. I've always used Stihl but I know Husky has a good rep. Is this a steal or should I pass? Also, anything specific to check on used Huskies?

That's a solid saw. I've had mine for 3 years, felled a ton of oak and it's been a workhorse. $350 is a good price if the bar and chain are in decent shape. First thing I'd check: does the chain tension adjust smoothly? And start it cold - should fire up easily. Also, pull the air filter and see if the carb looks clean. If the previous owner used it hard without maintenance, you could be looking at a new carb or fuel lines. But these 455s are pretty tough. I'd say go for it, but offer $300 and see if they bite.

Will, I'm a Stihl man myself, but I'll be honest - the 455 Rancher is a good saw. But $350 for a used one? You can get a brand new Echo CS-590 for around $400 and it's got more power and a 5-year warranty. I'd rather have the warranty than a used saw with no coverage. Plus, you know the history with new. But if you want Husky, the 455 is solid. Just make sure it's not one of the ones with the plastic clutch cover that strips - they had that issue. Ask if they've ever replaced the clutch.

Thanks Sarah and Tim. I didn't think about warranty, that's a good point. The guy says he's the original owner, used it for cutting firewood, and it's been regularly serviced. He's sending me a video of it starting and running. I'll also ask about the clutch cover. If he drops to $300, I might take a chance. Else I might just wait for a sale on a new one.
