Found a killer deal on a chainsaw, worth it?

So I'm browsing FB Marketplace and this guy is selling a barely used Husqvarna 460 Rancher for $200. Retails like $400+. He says it's only been used a few times and has been sitting in his garage. I'm tempted but I've never owned a chainsaw. Is this too good to be true? What should I look out for?

Bob, that's a steal if it's legit. Husky 460 is a solid saw for firewood and limbing. I'd ask for a video of it running cold and hot. Check the bar and chain for wear, make sure the chain tensioner works, and look for any leaks. Also, trust your gut - if the guy's sketchy, walk away.

I agree with Paul. $200 for a 460 is a great price. But also check the fuel lines - ethanol gas can eat them if it sat with old gas. Ask if he drained it. And do a compression check if you can. If it pulls over smoothly with resistance, that's a good sign. But even if it needs a carb clean, you're still ahead.

Thanks guys. He sent a video of it starting and idling, sounds fine. He says he drained the gas and it's been in a heated garage. I'm going to check it out tomorrow. Anything specific to look for in the chain? I read the bar could be worn.

Check the bar for a groove or burrs, especially if the chain was dull. If the bar is bent, it's a no-go. And look at the chain teeth - if they're rounded, you'll need a file or new chain. But even with a new bar and chain, you're still under retail. Go for it, but don't let him rush you into a sale.
