So I was browsing FB marketplace and came across this Stihl MS 291 with a 20" bar. Guy says it's barely used, just needs a little TLC. He's asking $200. Normally these go for $400+ used. I'm tempted to jump on it, but I've been burned before with 'bargains'. What do you all think? Worth the risk?

Hey Steve! I'd say check the compression first, and if it starts cold easily. Could be a scam or maybe it's stolen. But if it checks out, $200 is a steal! I got my 291 for $350 and it's been a workhorse. Just make sure the chain brake works and no cracks in the handle.

Stihl? Overpriced if you ask me. You could get a new Echo or Husqvarna for not much more and have a warranty. But if you're set on Stihl, that's a decent price. Just don't expect it to be perfect. Check the air filter, spark plug, and fuel lines. I'd offer $150 and see if he bites.

Valid points. I'm meeting him tomorrow. I'll bring a compression tester and a screwdriver to take the cover off. I'll offer $150 if it's not perfect. Better safe than sorry, right? Thanks for the input, guys!

Let us know how it goes! And if you pass on it, send me the link. I might be interested for a backup! 😉
