Hey all, just picked up my first chainsaw (a Stihl MS170) and I want to make sure I'm not missing any safety gear. I got a hard hat with mesh visor, chaps, and steel-toe boots. Anything else? I've heard muffs are a must.

Good start Paul. Def get ear muffs or plugs - chainsaws hit 100+ dB easy. Also, don't skimp on gloves. I prefer cut-resistant ones. And always wear a snug fit jacket, no loose sleeves.

Muffs are cheap at Harbor Freight. I got a combo hardhat/earmuff/visor for like $25. Pro tip: buy extra chains and sharpening tools, saves money in the long run. And don't forget eye pro under that visor if you're wearing glasses.

u/PlumberPaul921, make sure those chaps are rated for the saw chain speed. Some cheap ones aren't. Also, get good boots with ankle support. I also keep a first aid kit with tourniquet in my truck. Not tryna scare you, but being prepared is key.
