PSA: Don't Skip the Chaps – My Chainsaw Nearly Got My Leg

Just had a scary moment today. Was limbing a fallen oak and the saw kicked back, caught my thigh. Lucky I was wearing my chaps – they shredded but my leg is fine. Seriously guys, PPE is not optional. I know they're hot and bulky, but better than a trip to the ER. Anyone else have a close call?

Glad you're okay, Will! Chaps are a must. I've been using Stihl chainsaws for 20 years and never had a kickback that bad, but I always gear up. I even wear a face shield – you don't want a branch in the eye either. What chaps you using?

I never used to wear chaps, thought they were for rookies. Then saw a video of a guy who got a femoral artery cut. That changed my mind real quick. Now I got the Husqvarna ones with the wrap-around protection. Better safe than sorry, man.

Preach!! I'm a contractor, I see folks on job sites skip the gear all the time. I tell them, 'You're not invincible, and your chainsaw doesn't care.' Chaps, helmet, earpro, gloves – the whole nine. Even when it's 90 degrees, I sweat, but I go home with all my parts. Stay safe out there!
