Hey all, I'm a landscape architect and need to upgrade my cordless chainsaw setup. Been eyeing the Milwaukee M18 FUEL and DeWalt 20V MAX XR models - both seem solid on paper, but I want to hear from folks who actually run these daily. I do everything from light pruning to felling smaller trees (up to 12" diameter). Battery life, power under load, and durability are my top concerns. Anyone have hands-on time with both?

DemoDave52 - I'm also in landscape architecture, and I've been running the DeWalt 20V chainsaw for about 8 months now. Honestly, it's a beast for its size. Cuts through 10" oak like butter, and the battery lasts me through a full day of intermittent use (I carry two 5Ah packs). Only gripe is the chain tensioning - it's a bit fiddly compared to some gas saws I've used. Haven't tried the Milwaukee, but my buddy in tree service swears by their M18 lineup for everything else.

Thanks RooferRob27! That's helpful - how's the DeWalt in wet conditions? I'm often dealing with damp wood after rains. Also, anyone tried the Milwaukee? I'm deep in their M18 ecosystem already (drill, impact, etc.), so staying with one battery platform is tempting, but not if the saw underperforms.

DemoDave52 - Wet wood hasn't been an issue for me, but I did have to clean the bar groove more often when cutting soggy pine last spring. As for Milwaukee, I've heard their chainsaw has better ergonomics (lighter feel), but some guys on my crew say the DeWalt has more consistent torque when you lean into it. Maybe check out ToolDiscounter's comparison vid on YouTube - they torture-tested both last month.

Appreciate the insights, RooferRob27. I'll look up that video. Leaning toward DeWalt based on your real-world feedback, but gonna see if any Milwaukee die-hards chime in here first. Thanks for not just saying 'buy gas' lol - I need cordless for noise restrictions in some client areas.
