DeWalt vs Makita Drill Showdown: Which One's Worth Your Cash?

Hey everyone! I'm in the market for a new cordless drill and I'm torn between DeWalt and Makita. I do a lot of DIY projects around the house - building shelves, hanging curtains, maybe some light furniture assembly. I've heard good things about both brands, but I want to know which one gives the best bang for the buck. Anyone with experience care to weigh in?

Honestly, for light DIY, you can't go wrong with either. But if you're comparing the 18V brushless models, the DeWalt DCD791 is a beast for the price. I've seen it on sale for under $150 with a battery. Makita's equivalent is usually a bit pricier. I'd go DeWalt for value. Just my two cents.

I'm all about Makita, but that's because I do a lot of woodworking and their drills have a longer chuck travel and better speed control for precise hole drilling. However, my buddy has the DeWalt and it's never given him trouble. If you're not doing super precise stuff, save some dough and get the DeWalt. But if you think you might get into more serious work later, investing in the Makita ecosystem might be worth it because all their tools are compatible.

Battery life is usually fine if you get the newer Li-ion ones. Just don't buy the cheap knockoff batteries off amazon, they die fast. Stick with the brand ones or get a reputable third-party. I've got a couple of 5Ah DeWalt batteries and they last all day with light use.
