DeWalt vs Makita: Which Drill Reigns Supreme?

Alright folks, I'm in the market for a new 18V drill. I've narrowed it down to the DeWalt DCD791 and the Makita XPH12. I do a lot of renovation work, so I need something durable with good torque. Anyone have experience with either? Let's hear it!

I've used both in my shop. Honestly, you can't go wrong. The Makita has a slightly better chuck and feels more balanced, but the DeWalt has that power boost mode that really kicks ass on tough screws. If you're doing heavy stuff all day, I'd lean Makita. But if you want that extra kick for occasional tough jobs, DeWalt's got your back.

As a safety inspector, I see a lot of drills come through for testing. Both are top-tier, but I'll say this: DeWalt's keyless chuck is a bit more reliable over time. I've seen less slippage. Also, their battery life seems to hold up better in cold weather. But hey, that's just my two cents. Safety first, and a good drill makes the job safer.

I'm a collector, so I own both and too many others lol. For pure woodworking, I prefer the Makita for its finesse and variable speed trigger. It's smoother for pilot holes. But for general construction and mixing drywall mud, the DeWalt is a beast. If I had to pick one for everything, I'd probably go with the DeWalt DCD791—it's more versatile with the high-speed mode. Oh, and make sure you get the brushless versions! They're way better.
