Drill battery not holding charge? Need help!

Hey everyone, I've got a DeWalt 20V drill that's been great for a couple of years, but now the battery dies super fast. It was fine last week, but now it won't hold a charge for more than 10 minutes of use. I've tried charging it overnight but no luck. Any ideas?

Hey man, that sucks. Sounds like the battery might be on its last legs. Battery cells do wear out after a few hundred charge cycles. You could try doing a full discharge and recharge cycle, but if it's still bad, you're probably looking at a new battery. Check if it's under warranty first.

+1 on the full cycle. Also, check the contacts on the battery and the drill - make sure they're clean and not corroded. Some times a little build-up on the terminals can cause poor connection and make it seem like it's not charging. You can clean them with a bit of electrical contact cleaner or a pencil eraser.

If it's out of warranty, I'd just get a new battery. But make sure you get one that's compatible - some third-party ones are garbage. Stick with OEM if you can. Also, are you storing it in a hot garage? Heat kills batteries. Keep it in a cool place.

I've had luck reviving old batteries with a smart charger that can balance cells. But if it's really dying, maybe it's time for a new drill. Just saying, I switched to Makita and haven't had issues, lol. But seriously, if the battery is the only problem, a new one is cheaper than a whole set.
