Drill battery won't charge - help!

Hey all, my DeWalt 20V drill battery just stopped charging. Plug it in, light flashes red, no charge. It's only a year old. Any ideas? I'm stumped.

Happened to me once. Could be the charger is toast or the battery's cells are unbalanced. Try charging another battery if you got one. If that works, it's the battery. If not, charger. Also, check the contacts for dirt or corrosion.

Good point. Also, sometimes the battery needs a 'reset'. Leave it on the charger for 10 minutes, then unplug and plug back in. That sometimes kicks it. But if it's only a year old, should be under warranty, so check that.

Happens with old age, but a year is young. I've seen it when batteries are stored in the cold or left on a dead charge for too long. Try warming it up a bit (not in the microwave! ;) ) and then charge. But if that doesn't work, warranty is your friend.

If it's out of warranty, you can crack open the battery and check the cells. Sometimes one cell goes bad and you can replace it. But be careful with lithium packs. Might be cheaper to just buy a new battery though, especially if you got the budget.
