Dust masks vs respirators - what's everyone using?

So I was drilling into some old concrete yesterday and got a face full of dust. I had a cheap dust mask on but I could still taste it. What's everyone using for PPE? I'm thinking about getting a proper respirator but not sure which one. Any advice?

Dude, I learned that lesson the hard way. I used to use those basic paper masks but they're useless for fine dust. I switched to a half-face respirator with P100 filters and it's a game changer. You can get them at any hardware store for like $30. Worth every penny.

Second the respirator. But also, are you using a vacuum attachment? I got one of those dust extraction rigs for my hammer drill and it cuts down the dust big time. Still wear the respirator though, especially for masonry.

I have a full-face respirator with replaceable cartridges. It's overkill for most stuff but I love it. I also use a HEPA vacuum and try to wet down concrete if possible. Safety first, but I'm a bit obsessive. 😅 Just make sure whatever you get is NIOSH approved.
