Found a deal on a Makita 18V drill, worth it?

So I stumbled on a Makita 18V LXT drill/driver at a local pawn shop for $80. It's the XFD131, barely used. Missing the battery, but they threw in a charger. Is that a good price? I'm thinking of picking it up for my collection. Any thoughts?

That's a steal if it's in good shape! I've had that model for years, accurate speed control, great for precise drilling. Check the chuck for wear and make sure the clutch doesn't slip. Even if you need to buy a new battery, you're still ahead. I'd grab it before someone else does.

Hold on, before you buy, check the safety features. Make sure the brake works and the trigger isn't sticking. Pawn shops don't always test these. Also, that charger might be a knockoff – check for UL certification. Last thing you want is a fire hazard. But if it checks out, $80 is a solid deal.

Good points, Chris. I'll give it a thorough test – inspect brush wear, run it at all speeds, and verify the charger. If all's good, I'm pulling the trigger. I've been looking for a donor for a restoration project, and this might be it.
