Hey folks, just spotted a DeWalt 20V MAX XR hammer drill at my local hardware store, 40% off! I'm a weekend warrior, mostly doing light DIY around the house. Is this worth picking up, or is it overkill for my needs? I currently have a no-name corded drill that gets the job done but is heavy and awkward. Thoughts?

Sam, for 40% off that's a steal! I've been using the XR line for years on job sites - they're tough as nails. Even if you're not doing heavy work, the hammer function is great for masonry, and the brushless motor is efficient. You won't regret it. Just make sure it comes with a charger and a couple of batteries, otherwise the deal might not be as sweet.

I'm a budget guy, so I'd normally say go with a cheaper option. But 40% off a DeWalt XR is hard to beat. I've had my DeWalt for 5+ years and it's still going strong. The key is to check the battery health if it's a kit. Also, think about what you'll use it for - if it's just screwdriving and occasional holes in wood, a compact drill would be lighter. But for versatility, this is a good buy.

Back in my day, we didn't have no fancy brushless motors! But seriously, that's a great deal. I've got the same drill, and it's been through hell - dropped, wet, covered in sawdust, and it just keeps going. For DIY, it's overkill but that's not a bad thing - you'll never have to upgrade. Just get a second battery so you're not waiting for a charge mid-project. And invest in some good bits, they make all the difference.
