Just scored a DeWalt DCD771 for $99 at Lowe's! Is this thing any good?

Hey everyone, long time lurker first time poster. Was at Lowe's today and they had a DeWalt DCD771 on clearance for $99 (usually $149). It's a 20V Max 1/2" drill/driver. I grabbed it because I needed a new drill and it seemed like a good deal. But now I'm second guessing... is this a decent drill for general DIY? I do a lot of around-the-house stuff, some furniture assembly, hanging shelves, etc. Not a pro by any means. Did I get a good deal or should I return it and save for something better? Thanks!

For $99 that's a solid deal. The DCD771 is a decent entry-level brushless drill. It's not gonna compete with the higher-end XR stuff, but for DIY it'll handle pretty much anything you throw at it. I've used one as a backup on jobsites and it held up fine. Just don't expect it to drill through concrete all day. If you're mainly doing wood and light metal, you're golden. Keep it.

I'll second what Dan said. But I will add: check the chuck for wobble. Some of the lower-end DeWalts have a bit of runout. If you're doing precision work, that might bug you. Spin it up and see if the bit wobbles. If not, you got a great deal. If it does, return it and get another one. For $99 you can't beat it for general use.

I've had my DCD771 for about 3 years now. It's been a workhorse for my woodworking projects. I've built a few tables, a bookshelf, and even used it to mix small batches of paint. The batteries are still going strong. For $99, that's a no-brainer. Just make sure you have a decent set of bits. The ones that come with it are garbage. Invest in some good ones and you'll be set.
