CDOT narrowing I-70 in Glenwood Canyon - anyone else dealing with this?

CDOT is narrowing I-70 through Glenwood Canyon starting March 16 for some major infrastructure work. Sounds like it's gonna be a mess for months. Anyone else in Colorado dealing with this? How bad do you think the delays will be? I drive through there pretty regularly for work and I'm not looking forward to it.

Yeah, I saw that too. Narrow lanes and reduced speeds, probably down to one lane in each direction. I've driven that canyon when they did work a few years back and it was a nightmare. Especially if you're hauling a trailer or have a big rig. My advice: plan for at least an extra hour, maybe two during peak times. And make sure your suspension is in good shape because those temporary lanes can be rough. Also, check your tire pressure before you go - don't want a blowout in a construction zone.

Ugh, that's gonna suck. I'm on a budget and can't afford to waste gas sitting in traffic. Any suggestions for alternate routes? I know there's the long way around through Steamboat but that adds like 3 hours. Maybe take the train? But I need my truck for work. Guess I'll just have to deal with it. On the bright side, maybe I can catch up on podcasts. Anyone got good DIY recommendations?

This is why I always keep a precision tire gauge in my glovebox. Those temporary lane shifts can cause uneven wear if you're not careful. Also, make sure your alignment is spot on before you hit that canyon - one pothole and you'll be sorry. I'd recommend checking your lug nuts too, just in case. And if you're stuck in traffic, at least you can admire the scenery, right? Silver lining.
