Deck Build - Driver Recommendations?

Hey all, first time building a deck for my backyard. I'm thinking of using composite decking. I've got a basic drill but I know I'll need a driver for all those screws. Any recommendations for a good impact driver that won't break the bank? I'm intermediate at best, so ease of use is key.

Felix, for a deck project, you'll want an impact driver with good torque and a compact design for tight spots. I've been using the DeWalt 20V MAX XR for years on job sites - it's a workhorse. If you're on a budget, check out the Ryobi One+ HP - it's surprisingly good for the price. Just make sure to get a set of good quality hex bits, they'll save you a headache.

I'll second the DeWalt XR if you want reliability, but honestly, for the money, Milwaukee's M18 FUEL is what I'd go with. I've dropped mine off a ladder and it still works like a champ. Plus, the battery tech is top notch. But hey, if you're only doing one project, maybe rent or borrow one. No need to buy if you won't use it much.

Listen to Chris, he knows his stuff. I've been building decks since the 80s, and I've seen everything. For composite decking, make sure you have an impact driver with a depth setting - you don't want to overdrive the screws and crack the boards. I've used a lot of brands, but I always tell folks to get a good set of bits too. Cheap bits will strip out. And remember, practice on a scrap piece first!
