DeWalt DCD791 vs Makita XFD131 - Which One Should I Get for Heavy Framing?

Hey all, I'm in the market for a new 1/2" drill/driver for heavy framing work. I've been eyeing the DeWalt DCD791 and the Makita XFD131. I know both are brushless and have similar specs, but I can't decide. Any of you have real-world experience with either? I need something that can handle 3" deck screws and mixing mortar occasionally without bogging down.

I've been running the Makita XFD131 on my crew for the last year. It's a beast. We do a ton of commercial framing and it never complains. The handle is comfortable, the belt clip is solid, and the battery life is insane. I've dropped it off a ladder twice and it still runs like a champ. The DeWalt is good too but I feel the Makita has a bit more low-end torque for those tough jobs. Go with the Makita, you won't regret it.

I don't do framing but I've used both for drilling holes in tile and mixing thinset. My buddy has the DeWalt and I have the Makita. Honestly, they're both top-tier. But if you're left-handed, the DeWalt's chuck is a bit more accessible to tighten with your right hand? I'm righty so no biggie. I'd say get whichever is on sale, and if they're same price, flip a coin. You'll be happy with either.

I've collected both brands for years, and I have to say, the Makita XFD131 has the better electronics. It has this 'auto torque' thing that senses when you're driving long screws and reduces kickback. I've used the DeWalt equivalent and it doesn't have that. Also, Makita's warranty is 3 years vs DeWalt's 1 year (on the tool). For the price difference, Makita is the smarter buy IMHO.
