Alright folks, I'm in the market for a new 1/2" impact wrench. I'm torn between the DeWalt DCF899 and the Makita XWT08. I've heard DeWalt hits harder but Makita is lighter. I'm a weekend mechanic, mostly working on my old truck and tractor. What's your experience? Is the extra oomph worth the weight?

I've used both on job sites. The DeWalt is a beast, no doubt. But Makita's build quality and trigger controll are better IMO. If you're doing heavy stuff like lug nuts on a big truck, go DeWalt. But for general use, Makita's got the ergonomics. Also, check the anvil – the DeWalt has a hog ring that can be a pain vs the Makita's detent pin.

Safety first! Make sure you get the right socket retention for your work. I've seen guys lose sockets because they didn't check. Also, consider the battery system – what else do you have? If you already have one platform, stick with it. Don't end up with mixed chargers cluttering your shop.

I'm a weekend warrior too. I went with the Makita because my other tools are Makita. I've been happy with it – takes lug nuts off my F-150 no problem. But I've heard the new Milwaukee is even better... just sayin'!

Thanks guys. I'm leaning Makita because I already have a couple of their drills. and the weight savings sound nice. Appreciate the input!
