Hey guys, I need to upgrade my old impact driver. I keep hearing good things about the DeWalt DCF887 and the Makita XDT16. I mostly do decks and framing on weekends. Which one is actually better for daily abuse? I've seen mixed reviews online.

If you care about precision and feel, go with the Makita. The XDT16 has way better trigger control for delicate work, and the speed settings are more useful. The DeWalt has more raw power on paper, but it's a bit clunky for smaller fasteners. I've used both and prefer the Makita's build quality.

I've had the DeWalt DCF887 for 2 years now. It's a tank. Dropped it off a ladder twice and still works like new. The Makita is nice but I feel like DeWalt has better battery options if you're already in the system. Unless you're doing super precise cabinetry, the DeWalt will serve you fine.

Thanks guys! I'm leaning towards the Makita for the control, but I also have some DeWalt batteries from my old drill. Maybe I'll just stick with DeWalt for compatibility.
