DeWalt vs Makita: Which One to Get for My First Impact Driver?

Hey everyone, I'm a weekend warrior and finally gonna pull the trigger on an impact driver. I'm torn between the DeWalt 20V Max and the Makita XDT131. Both look solid, but I can't decide. Which one would you guys pick for general DIY stuff like building shelves and deck repairs?

I've been in the trades for 30+ years, and honestly you can't go wrong with either. But for your use, I'd say DeWalt because their 20V platform has a wider range of tools if you expand later. Also, the feel and balance of the DeWalt is great for all-day use. Makita is no slouch though, just a bit heavier in my experience.

Makita all the way, man! Their brushless motors are bulletproof. I've dropped mine off a ladder and it still works perfectly. Plus the XDT131 has that quick-shift mode which is super handy. DeWalt might have more tools, but I only need a driver. Go with the Makita, you won't regret it.

I'm a bit of a garage tinkerer and own both brands for different things. For impact drivers specifically, I prefer the Makita because it has less vibration and is quieter. But I've seen plenty of guys on job sites with the DeWalt and they last forever. What's your budget? If you can get a kit with a battery and charger, that might tip the scale.

Thanks for the input! I didn't think about the noise factor. I'll be using it in the garage mostly, so Makita's quieter operation is a plus. Also, good point about the platform - I might get a circular saw later, and DeWalt has more options. Ugh, still tough call. Any more thoughts on battery life?
