Just scored a Milwaukee M18 Fuel impact driver - what should I build first?

Hey Tool Discount Club fam! Just pulled the trigger on a Milwaukee M18 Fuel impact driver after eyeing it for months. This thing feels SOLID in the hand - way better than my old Ryobi. The quick-release chuck is butter smooth and it's surprisingly lightweight. I'm itching to put it to work but can't decide on the first project. Should I tackle some deck repairs, build a workbench, or just start assembling IKEA furniture for practice? What do you guys think?

Nice grab Sid! Those M18 Fuels are beasts. For a first project with an impact, I'd say build that workbench. Perfect chance to sink some lag bolts and practice your trigger control. Pro tip: start with softer woods like pine before you go ham on oak - it's easy to overdrive screws when you're getting used to the power. And for the love of drywall, don't use it on mud screws until you've got the feel down!

Congrats on the new tool! As a landscape guy, I'd say build some planter boxes or a small garden shed. Great way to practice different fasteners - deck screws, structural screws, maybe even some Tapcons if you're feeling fancy. Plus you get something useful out of it. Just watch your wrist on those long drives - these impacts have way more torque than people expect!

Sweet pickup! HVAC perspective: that driver will be perfect for ductwork brackets and equipment mounting. But for a fun first project? Build a rolling tool cart. You'll use it forever, and it's a good mix of framing and finish work. Bonus: when your wife asks why you needed another tool, you can say 'to organize all my other tools!' Works every time 😉

Awesome suggestions everyone! Think I'm leaning toward the workbench -> tool cart combo. Start with a solid bench this weekend, then build the cart next week to organize all my clutter. Luke90 - thanks for the soft wood tip, almost grabbed some oak but will start with pine instead. And Luke67 - that wife excuse is gold, definitely using that! Will post pics when it's done. This community rocks!
