Best grinder for cutting flagstone patio?

Hey everyone, I'm about to start building a flagstone patio in my backyard, and I need a good angle grinder for cutting the stones. I've got a budget of around $150. Should I get a 4-1/2 inch or a 6 inch? And any specific model you'd recommend? I'll be doing straight cuts and some curves. Thanks!

For flagstone, you want something with some power and preferably a dust collection hookup. I'd say go with a 4-1/2 inch for better control, but if you're doing thick stones, a 6 inch might be better. My go-to is the DeWalt DWE43144, but that's a bit over your budget. You can find a good deal on the DWE402 though, that's a workhorse.

I've always used Makita for grinders- they just last forever. The 9557PB is a classic, but honestly, for stone, you might want to look at a variable speed one so you can slow it down and use a diamond blade. That way you don't burn up the blade. I've got the 9565CV, it's a bit pricey but worth it.

Don't forget about using a wet saw if you have access to one- much cleaner cuts for stone. But if you're set on a grinder, consider a 5-inch with a diamond blade. I'd also recommend a guard with a vacuum attachment to keep dust down. You can get a decent one from Harbor Freight for under $50, but you'll want to replace the brushes or something. I've had good luck with their Bauer line.
