DeWalt vs Makita angle grinder for DIY? Which one should I get?

So I'm in the market for a new 4.5" angle grinder. I've been using a cheap one from HF for years and it finally died. I'm looking at either DeWalt or Makita. I do a lot of woodworking and some metal fabrication on the side. Which brand do you guys prefer for grinders? I want something that'll last and has good power. Budget is around $100-150. Any advice?

I've got a Makita 9557PB and it's a beast. Had it for 3 years, used it for cutting rebar, grinding welds, even some concrete smoothing. Still runs like new. The paddle switch is a nice safety feature. DeWalt makes good stuff too but I think Makita grinders are a bit more ergonomic. Just my 2 cents.

I'm a DeWalt guy for most power tools, but for grinders, I actually prefer Makita. The vibration is lower and they feel more balanced in the hand. I've had my Makita for 5 years and only had to replace the cord once (my fault, cut it). DeWalt's newer models are decent but I find the triggers can be sticky after a while. Either way, get one with a tool-less guard adjustment, makes life easier.

Thanks guys. I was leaning towards DeWalt because I already have their drills and batteries, but these are corded so that doesn't matter. I think I'll go with the Makita 9557PB. Seems like a solid choice. Appreciate the input!

Good call. Also, pick up some good grinding wheels. The ones that come in the box are usually crap. Diablo or Walter are worth the extra few bucks. And always wear eye protection! Let us know how it works out.
