Alright guys, I need to upgrade my angle grinder. I've been running a cheapo for a while and it's finally giving up. I'm between the DeWalt DCG413B and the Makita XAG04Z. Daily use cutting rebar and grinding welds. Which one holds up better long-term? Heard Makita has better dust protection but DeWalt has more power.

I'd go DeWalt if you're pushing it hard. They take more abuse. But make sure you use a proper guard and eye pro. Seen too many guys lose fingers to kickback. Makita's switch is easier to lock on accidentally, which is a safety hazard. Also, don't cheap out on discs.

Actually, Makita's brushless motor is smoother and has better speed control. For precise grinding, the Makita wins. DeWalt's trigger is a bit stiff. But if you're just hogging steel, it's fine. Check the runout on the spindle – my Makita was almost zero, DeWalt had slight wobble out of the box.

I'm just a weekend warrior, but I have the Makita. It's light and easy to handle, but I haven't abused it. Heard the DeWalt has more torque. For heavy use, maybe Carl, you want the one with the paddle switch, easier to control. Try both in store if you can.
