Hey all, I'm an apprentice cabinet maker and need a new grinder for cutting and sanding. I've got Dewalt battery stuff but my boss swears by Makita. I'm thinking about the DWE402 or the Makita 9557PB. Which one's better for edge work and dust management?

I've owned both. The Makita 9557PB is lighter and smoother for detail sanding, but the Dewalt has more power for heavy cuts. Dewalt's dust collection is pretty good with the guard, but Makita wins on ergonomics. If you're doing cabinets all day, Makita might save your wrist. Just my 2 cents.

Professional contractor here. I've had Dewalt grinders catch fire on me twice. Makitas are more reliable long-term. The 9557PB is a tank, and parts are easy to find. Plus, Makita's paddle switch is safer. For dust, get a vac attachment. Go Makita.

Thanks guys! I was leaning towards Dewalt cause of the batteries, but SparkySam's fire comment scares me. Might grab the Makita. Anyone use the Makita with an adapter for Dewalt batteries?

I wouldn't recommend battery hacking for grinders. They draw too much and can fry the tool or batt. Just go corded for now, or get a Makita starter kit. Trust me, it's worth it.
