Need advice: Which grinder for my deck refinishing?

Hey everyone, first time posting here. I'm planning to refinish my 500 sq ft deck. I need to strip old paint and smooth out the wood. I've been looking at angle grinders with sanding attachments. Any recommendations? I don't want to spend a fortune, but I want something reliable.

For a job like that, you can't go wrong with the Makita 4-1/2" angle grinder (GA4530). It's affordable, durable, and has enough power for stripping. Just get a good flap disc or cup brush for paint removal. I've used mine on several decks, and it holds up.

I'd have to agree with Mike on the Makita, but if you want a bit more power, check out the DeWalt DCG412B cordless if you have batteries, or the Bosch GWS8-45. That Bosch has a 7.5 amp motor, plenty for deck work. And don't forget a dust collection attachment - you'll thank me later.

I'm more of a woodworker, but I've used an angle grinder with a 60-grit sanding disc for decking. It works, but if you're doing a lot, consider a random orbital sander instead. Much easier to control, less aggressive on the wood. But for stripping paint, a grinder with a stripping wheel is faster. Just be careful not to gouge the wood.
