So I was mowing the lawn this afternoon, just a quick cut before the game. Wearing my old sneakers like an idiot. Hit a rock or something and the blade threw it right at my foot. Sneaker ripped open, toe is purple as hell. Couldve been way worse. Learn from my dumbass mistake: wear steel toes or at least thick boots when you mow. Anyone else got close calls?

Glad you're okay man. I'm kinda OCD about PPE. I wear steel-toe boots, safety glasses, and ear muffs every time I mow. Takes 30 seconds to gear up but saves you from stupid injuries. Also check your discharge chute - if it's clogged, shut off the mower before clearing it. I've seen guys lose fingers trying to unclog with the engine running.

Yeah, I learned the hard way too. Not as bad as yours, but I got a rock to the shin once. Now I wear long pants and boots no matter what. Also, if you have a ditch or slope, mow across not up and down. And keep kids and pets inside. My neighbor's dog almost got hit by a ricochet.

Thanks guys. Definitely getting proper boots this week. Larry, good call on the discharge chute - I'm guilty of poking it with a stick while it's running. Won't do that again. Dave, never thought about mowing direction on slopes, I'll try that.

Also, don't forget hearing protection. I know it seems overkill but tinnitus is no joke. I use those cheap foam plugs and they work fine. And gloves for grip. Stay safe out there.
