Building a 12x16 Deck – What Circular Saw Should I Get?

Hey everyone! I'm finally gonna build that deck I've been planning for years. It's gonna be 12x16, pressure-treated lumber. I need a new circular saw – my old one is toast. I'm torn between the Dewalt DWE575 and the Makita 5007MG. I'll be cutting 2x6s and 5/4 decking. Any advice? Budget is around $150.

I've used both on job sites. The Makita has a magnesium shoe that's super smooth and won't rust, but the Dewalt has a better dust blower. For decking, I'd go with the Makita – it's lighter and the bevel adjust is easier. Also, grab a Diablo blade, the stock one leaves rough edges. Just my 2 cents.

Don't forget about the blade you pair with it! I'd recommend a 40-tooth thin kerf for clean cuts on decking. Also, check the arbor size – some saws have a 5/8" arbor, but cheaper ones might be metric. Makita all the way for reliability. I've got the 5007MG and it's never let me down.

Thanks guys! I think I'm leaning towards the Makita now. @DrillMaster816, good tip on the blade – I'll grab a Diablo 40T. One more thing: do I need a worm drive for this, or is sidewinder fine?

Nah, sidewinder is perfect for framing decks. Worm drives are heavier and better for rip cuts on long boards, but for crosscuts on 2x material, sidewinder is fine. Just make sure your extension cord is heavy enough – 12 gauge minimum. Post pics when you're done!
